Wright Hassle 10k

Time: Chip – 45.05, Gun – 47.27
Overnight several inches of snow had fallen and I awoke Sunday to a white vista. After a bad nights sleep and a tight ham string this nearly put me off going to the race at all. After a call to other boat club members I found out that the race was on and that everyone was still up for it.
Begrudgingly I dragged myself out of bed. I’m so glad I did though! The drive into Leamington was stunning, fresh white snow with blue sky and bright sun. In town I met up with Sandy and we took a gentle stroll to the start. It was cold but the sun made it feel like I was in European ski resort. Arrive a little close to the start; in fact by the time we’d dropped our kit off the gun had already gone.
We found the other members from the boat club and set off with them. Sandy and I split after the first corner and set off at a steady pace. The first 5k was run mainly on muddy paths trying to get around traffic. By 6k my legs were feeling good so I stretched the pace out and by 7k Sandy had let me go ahead.
The last 3k were on tarmac and I got up to my running pace. It felt good to stretch the legs but I could feel my ham string tightening. I managed to get a bit of a sprint in at the finish. Overall I’m pleased with my time as I’ve not run since last October.
