Day 22 – A walk in the woods
Good to spend an extra day in a place rather than moving through. Heading back to Yosemite we stopped off at Mono Lake; a bizarre salty lake with a volcanic appearance.
Back in Yosemite we headed for the plains. Not far from the visitor’s center we picked up the Cathedral Lake trail. We hiked through the afternoon covering 13 miles of steep and sandy woodland terrain. Following the trail was a serene experience; to our left was the giant Cathedral Peak; around us was dense woods, hinting at views beyond and every so often we’d bump into people and give a casual “hi, how are you?”. After a couple of hours we made it to Catherdral Lake and sat with our feet in the water admiring the view.
Relaxed in the evening by going to the cinema. Saw “Eagle Eye”; not a bad film but added interest came from playing spot the places we’ve been.
