Day 4 – Hey Batter Batter Batter
An early start was a shock to the system but my blistered feet were happy to be taking the bus for most of the day.
We boarded the Toronto – Detroit Greyhound at the same terminal as the coach to Niagara. Have got to say that the way they run coach services in Toronto is superb. There’s separate departure and arrival terminals and the staff are extremely helpful.
On the bus I finally found time to start reading again. Occasianally I’ll glance up an catch a view that reminds me of a scene I’ve seen in a film; be it a farm or a big Rubber Duck truck.
Passing trough customs without issue we arrived in Detroit in the early afternoon. Bewildered we headed down town. Stopping at a street map a local guy and a porter came over and started giving us advise on where to stay and what to do.
Wanting to find cheap accommodation we started to wonder around. After a few miles we found a place with a phone book and realised that our options were looking limited. We wandered some more, several miles up town, then back down town. Pianful on the feet but along the way some random passer by, Kennith, gave us two tickets to the baseball game in the evening. Couldn’t believe the generosity and friendlyness of the locals.
We eventually got pointed in the direction of a grand looking hotel back near where we started out. All I have to say is check rooms before you pay up! Well to be fair the room was ok but the rest of the hotel, bar the immaculate lobby, was a cross between the Shining and Harwoods House.
We didn’t hang about and after a quick change we headed for the Ford ball park to see the Detroit Tigers. We sat next to the Kennith and his wife who took us through the rules of the game. This was a superb introduction to base ball. Felt like a real community event with everyone chatting, singing and cheering. Deffinately going to see another game whilst in the US.
Stopped of for a few beers on the way back to the scarey hotel. At the bar we were given complimentary tiger bombs, orange soda chasers, because they liked our accent.
If we surrvive the night I’ll have been truly impressed by Detroit. It run down in places and life seems hard on some of the locals but their helpfullness and generosity has overwhelmed me.

I appreciate any and all serious feedback, especially if you feel strongly about something I have written about.
