Day 5 – Heading to the windy city

After surviving the night in Harwood’s towers we set out to hire a car. Unfortunately the singular downtown rental place wanted way too much. Seems like the best deals are at the airport but getting the from downtown is nearly impossible as public transport is minma – a legacy of the car firms.

Over breakfast, a horrible Hawaiian chicken pita, we weighed up our options and decided to head for Chicago. Picking up a bargain, but smelly, Greyhound we’re on the road again!

Arriving in Chicago we found a sign advertising hostels. All bar one were booked up so we went for it. Unfortunately the directions given were useless and we forgot to write down the hotel’s details. So after a 30 tube ride we had to return to the Greyhound terminal. An hour later, midnight, we found the hotel. I choose my words carefully when I describe this place; its a sh1.t hole.
